Our message spread regionally to New York City, Washington, DC, and Montgomery County, MD. Then in 2023, to New York State - from a community of 60 thousand people to 21.35 million. A climate crisis. And a public health crisis.
Gas isn’t just bad for our climate - it’s also toxic for our health, both globally and in Massachusetts. Poor air quality from burning fossil fuels is associated with higher rates of disease and death throughout the Commonwealth, and even more so in already burdened Environmental Justice communities.
Gas stoves emit Benzene - a powerful carcinogen with no safe limits of exposure - which spreads through your home and lingers for hours after you’re done cooking. Gas stoves also emit many other dangerous pollutants like nitrogen dioxide, formaldehyde, carbon monoxide and methane - even when they are turned off.
The time to act is now.
Electrification is cheaper, healthier, and the only option for a livable climate future. We need to stop using fossil fuels - that’s oil, gas, propane, coal and wood burning - now to save ourselves huge costs and even larger risks to our future.
Take a step in your own life toward getting rid of gas, and then go one step further: get others to do the same.
